Do I really need a system that uses an individual active sensor for each modality? Active sensors were a nice thing to have, 5 or 10 years ago. However, for electrophysiology, NeXus-10 does not require these. A dual Channel EXG cable only costs as much as a single active sensor, but offers TWO channels of EEG, EMG, ECG, or EOG. Active sensors are expensive; a comparable set of active sensors might cost you an additional $1,000 to $2,000 (US Dollars) on other systems.
Is the biofeedback hardware robust enough? Working with biofeedback equipment on a daily basis causes wear and tear on cables and connectors and will cause weaknesses to occur. A small plastic connector may break when inadvertently pulled. A poor contact with the sensor or electrode is created when the cable is not accurately pushed in. This is a problem of the past! The NeXus-10 uses only "medical grade, brushed aluminum connectors that lock tightly in place and are virtually indestructible. The NeXus-10 is protected by a leather carrying case...one less thing to worry about! Is my biofeedback system future ready? What will "state of the art" look like in 5 years? Some biofeedback systems on the market today only support 12 to 14 bit resolution (analog to digital conversion), NeXus-10 takes the lead by offering ultra high 24 bit precision (1 part in 16 million), thereby offering a far greater dynamic range and resolution. Why get only 12 or 14 bit when you can get 24 bit for the same price? Do I need wireless biofeedback or should I stick to the "good old cable"? A fiber optic cable connection to a computer limits your freedom of movement and may even get damaged. NeXus-10 supports a wireless BlueTooth link to your computer up to 30 yards. BlueTooth is used by millions of users everyday and has been accepted by the medical community as being very safe and reliable. It has even been tested in surgery rooms. The FDA has already approved several products based on BlueTooth. So, feel free to go wireless with biofeedback. It’s the future… Do I want carbon coated cables with active shielding? In the old days, people needed active sensors because the cable noise and artifact were so bad it rendered signals useless during movement or 60Hz interference. NeXus-10 no longer needs all of that. It uses low noise carbon coated cables instead that are virtually artifact free and have active shielding to the very end. NeXus-10 is so good that it no longer needs a 60Hz notch filter! Typical EEG noise is less than 0.3 µV RMS. So, yes, perhaps you do want those cables. Do I need impedance checking on EEG? NeXus-10 supports an alternative method called EEG Offset Checking which is not only performed at the beginning of a session (like some systems do) but during the recording of the session as well. So when an electrode goes bad, you will notice.
How many channels are enough? That’s up to you. However, Nexus-10 offers 10 channel monitoring at the same price that other manufacturers offer on 6-8 channel systems. The NeXus-10 inputs are flexible and can be arranged to accept a multitude of sensors in many different combinations. How many FAST channels do you need? The amount of fast channels needed would depend on the type of work performed, but we included 4 fast channels (2048 samples per second) on the NeXus-10. So you can record up to 4 raw EMG channels at 2Khz and do full spectral analysis. Most other systems only have 2 or less fast channels. What sensors and modalities do I need? Once again it depends on the type of work being performed. To be on the safe side, the NeXus-10 engineers designed the platform such that it would support more sensors than ever before. Here is the list: EEG, raw EMG, ECG, EOG (eye activity), SCP (slow cortical potentials), BVP, HRV, Respiration, Skin conductance, Skin potentials, Skin Temperature, Oximetry (SpO2). What kind of flexibility and features do I need in Software? BioTrace+ is one of the first biofeedback software applications that supports advanced Microsoft DirectX ™ accelerated graphics. This means your graphics and imaging are smoother and faster than ever. The screen editor is truly WYSIWYG and can change and edit everything on the fly, even while you are recording. The DirectX sound quality is a clear improvement over the standard windows sounds and the best news is that most functions can be operated by a single keyboard press. Furthermore BioTrace+ features a wide range of mathematical and statistical data functions and a extensive client database. What kind of technical expertise and support can I expect? NeXus-10 was designed by a group of 10 engineers that work in an ISO13485 certified company in Europe. Furthermore, the BioTrace+ Software was designed by a group of 5 software engineers with over 20 years of experience in physiological monitoring and biofeedback. This was the same group that brought you the first 32 channel Windows biofeedback application in 1995, which has been leading the field for 8 years. A team of 4 technical support people is ready to answer your questions. What about training and service? Stens Corporation is the exclusive NeXus-10 distributor for the USA and has a track record of over 30 years of offering quality training and support. Stens offers biofeedback and neurofeedback training 11 months out of the year, as well as various specialty workshop throughout the year. Participants will have the opportunity to train on the NeXus-10, as well as other well known biofeedback systems, so they will have the ability to compare products. Stens is a independent distributor. Unlike manufacturers that offer workshops and want only to sell their product, with Stens, you can get hands-on experience on a diverse series of products from several manufacturers. Does Stens offer a lease purchase plan for equipment? Yes, we offer financing through Key Equipment Finance, one of the nation’s largest bank-held equipment financing companies and an affiliate of KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY).
