5-Day Quantitative EEG

Course Outline

This 5-day training seminar is designed to teach the basic concepts and introduce the participant to advanced topics in Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG). This is a highly experiential course covering the QEEG from electrode placement to interpretation. All participants will learn electrode placement, recording techniques, visual inspection of the EEG and how to recognize artifacts by the collection of 19 channel EEG on a variety of hardware/software options with a maximum of three participants to each EEG system. The course will additionally cover EEG editing, QEEG analysis and the use of statistics and databases for interpretation. The participant will be exposed to a variety of software for analysis and will be given an understanding of basic concepts such as amplitude, power, coherence and advanced concepts such as Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA) for interpreting the QEEG. Research and clinically relevant interpretive techniques will be included. Leslie Sherlin, PhD candidate, QEEG-D, BCIA-EEG and Jack Johnstone, PhD will be the instructors for this course.

Our Faculty:

Leslie Sherlin, PhD completed his undergraduate degree and first years of graduate school from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he became interested and exposed to QEEG and neurofeedback.  While still an undergraduate he was able to acquire training in Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA) in Switzerland.  Following this experience he co-founded Nova Tech EEG, Inc. He has the degrees of BA in Psychology, MS in Clinical Psychology and PhD in Psychology.  Following the first years of primarily research in QEEG and LORETA, he then began practicing QEEG analysis and neurofeedback clinically and has been involved in client care for the past 7 years while continuing to pursue research projects in the field of QEEG, neurofeedback and biofeedback.

In addition to being president of Nova Tech EEG, Inc and being employed by Q-Metrx, Inc, he has the academic appointments of adjunct associate professor in the department of mind-body medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine; faculty in the department of psychology at the University of Phoenix main campus; adjunct faculty in the department of psychology at Northern Arizona University; and clinical faculty at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center. He is certified at the Diplomate level in QEEG and is BCIA Certified both in general and EEG biofeedback.
