2-Day Advanced Neurofeedback/EEG
Saturday9:00 a.m. Introduction and Overview of the Two-Day Program
9:30 a.m. Context: Issues in Clinical Assessment
- Structured Clinical Interview- the big picture
- Standardized Testing- Rating Scales, Neurocognitive Assessment
- Neurophysiological Evaluation- qEEG/ERP, SPECT, PET, fMRI
10:00 a.m. Introduction to EEG
Basics of EEG Recording and Interpretation:
- Medical Issues- “normalcy”, specificity, diagnosis, neuropathology (“brain damage”)
- Frequency, Amplitude, Impedance, Polarity, Montages (including Laplacian, CSD)
- Generators and pacemakers - high threshold neuronal bursting
- Recording conditions: eyes closed vs. open resting, tasking, drowsiness, medications.
11:00 a.m. BREAK ****
Importance of Reading the Waveforms- LOTS OF EXAMPLES:
- EEG displays from Nexus/Biotrace
- Common artifacts
- Slowing in drowsiness and sleep compared to pathological slowing
- Transient Events – slow bursts, seizure activity, shifting laterality
12:30 p.m. *LUNCH BREAK
1:30 Introduction to Quantitative EEG/ERP: Fundamentals
- Background: Neurophysiological Evaluation, EEG, qEEG, ERP.
- Terminology: Amplitude, magnitude, power, relative power, D.C. potentials, coherence, phase, synchrony, comodulation, “connectivity”, bispectrum.
- Computations: Digitizing, Spectral Analysis (FFT), Source Localization (sLORETA), cortical vs. subcortical events.
3:00 p.m. BREAK ****
- Databases: Z-scores, references, numbers, comparison of databases (NxLink, NeuroGuide, SKIL, LORETA, Institute of the Human Brain database, BRC).
